ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Ken McKay, Ph.D. is CEO of Healthy Minds, a multidisciplinary mental health clinic in Las Vegas primarily serving court-involved clientele. He oversees outpatient programs that serve over 500 adults and juveniles in Specialty Court Programs, such as Drug Court, Mental Health Court, and Co-Occurring Court. Healthy Minds modeled a program for children and families involved in the child welfare system off multi-systemic therapy and trauma-informed principles that has served over 1,500 children and families—reducing reliance on psychotropic medication, decreasing hospitalizations, and achieving permanency for children. Dr. McKay is a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of experience in a variety of settings, including schools, psychiatric hospitals, therapeutic foster homes, residential treatment facilities, detention centers, private practice, and outpatient clinics. He is a participant in multiple public and private advocacy efforts to advance Nevada’s mental health system.

HOW WE STARTED

CCS was born out of a vision of Dr. Ken McKay. Frustrated by poor communication and collaboration among mental health providers. Dr. McKay recognized that these providers could help patients far more by working together than they could individually.

Dr. McKay envisioned a healthier community for Nevada's children and his own — a mission that was put into overdrive after a life-changing journey through cancer treatment. His experience inspired him to impact his community as meaningfully as those who had developed his cancer treatments. His encounter with cancer was a reminder that both cancer and mental health can be matters of life and death.

OUR VISION

Nevada has been ranked last nationally in mental health since 2011, which causes over 200 families to seek psychiatric services out of state each month. CCS will open Nevada’s first and only non-profit psychiatric facility for kids to deliver cutting-edge services right here in Las Vegas. We’re committed to filling the gaps of existing service lines and researching new solutions to Nevada-specific challenges. We're committed to developing our mental health workforce while expanding the availability of critical psychiatric services, which will inspire the best and brightest to be a part of our solutions.

The CCS team boasts tremendous experience growing and operating organizations that deliver psychiatric services, but our lofty mission calls for more. Thus, our team is welcoming involvement from people with knowledge and experience in the following:

  • blending public, private, and grant funding and financing for healthcare
  • community outreach, fundraising, and philanthropy
  • navigating the legal and regulatory landscape of nonprofit psychiatric facilities at the local, state, and federal levels
  • acquisition, maintenance, and growth of the physical facilities for healthcare
  • credentialing, contracting, and billing for psychiatric services across various facility types and payer sources
  • government relations on matters pertaining to youth services

We welcome key community stakeholders to have a voice in coalescing the team, prioritizing services, and influencing the strategic initiatives necessary to carry out our mission.
